For Milliken, ‘doing good’ means directly impacting the communities where our associates live and work, for the better. It means being a true environmental steward, which involves more than doing the “necessary minimum” – but going beyond to actually better the world around us. It means manufacturing products that keep our families safe and healthy. It means engaging imaginations, pushing limits, and demanding solutions to widespread problems. It means committing to processes that respect people, respect our environment, and respect our world.
For us, ‘doing good’ is a way of life, every season of the year.
Discover how our culture of ‘doing good’ resonates with our partners, our customers, and our associates. We are proud to partner with people and organizations that adopt this very important aspect of who we are as a company.
Associates who ‘do good’: Lending a helping hand
More than 80 global Milliken HR associates recently joined forces to support Hub Cycle, a bicycle-lending program in Spartanburg, South Carolina, that increases the availability of and access to bicycles in the community. Milliken team members volunteered their time and energy to help repair 10 used bikes.
The Hub Cycle program was created in association with Partners for Active Living, one of Milliken’s strategic impact organizations from the 2016 Community Impact campaign. The program invites individuals to donate new or used bicycles to encourage alternate transportation methods, promote recycling, and teach bike safety, maintenance, and repair.
Partnerships that ‘do good’: Restoring marine ecosystems
Our recently established partnership with ‘Healthy Seas, a Journey from Waste to Wear’ aims to recover abandoned fishing nets that pollute our seas and coasts and transform them into new, and inspiring, products. The program regenerates the nets into high-quality Aquafil ECONYL® yarn, which is then used to create new products, including various Milliken carpet collections.
An estimated 640,000 tons of fishing nets are left in our oceans each year – which can lead to the capturing and killing of marine animals including whales, turtles, and birds.
Products that ‘do good’: Improving automobile interior air quality
Milliken was recently honored with a 2016 InnoVision Award for the revolutionary protective environmental qualities found in our Milliguard™ UVX200 HF technology, an innovative UV absorber used in polyurethane systems. Not only does the technology protect against the failure of physical properties in car interiors due to harmful UV rays, but the innovation also boasts a zero-emission profile.
Milliguard™ UVX200 HF contributes to a cleaner and safer interior automobile environment while improving the overall chemical safety profile of vehicles.
Customers that ‘do good’: Joining the fight against AIDS
We are proud to collaborate with organizations that join our mission to improve the world we all share, which includes caring for the people in it. One of these groups is M Moser Associates, a global design firm and longstanding partner of Milliken.
Every year, M Moser Associates helps put on the popular Dining by Design event hosted by Design Industries Foundation Fighting AIDS (DIFFA). As one of the country’s largest supporters of direct care for people living with HIV/AIDS, DIFFA seeks to unite the fields of fine design and the visual arts in order to build awareness and strengthen the fight against HIV/AIDS.
We were honored to have our Color Wash collection featured at this year’s event, which raised nearly $1 million to fight HIV/AIDS.
