“When you empower people to ‘do good’ in ways that are personally meaningful, you’ll see a collective response for the greater good.” – Joe Salley, Milliken & Company President and CEO

Milliken’s annual Corporate Impact Campaign took a new form in 2016, broadening our company’s philanthropic endeavors in Spartanburg, South Carolina—our global headquarters.

In addition to supporting Milliken’s longtime partner, United Way of the Piedmont, this year’s campaign benefited three Strategic Community Impact Organizations with missions that align with core Milliken & Company values: vibrant culture, health and safety, and quality education.

  • Northside Development Group manages the redevelopment of the City of Spartanburg’s Northside community, expanding the economic, educational, recreational, health and social opportunities for its residents.
  • Partners for Active Living addresses the root causes of cardiovascular disease: physical inactivity and poor nutrition. Its work is focused in policies, programs and partnership for three core areas, including childhood obesity prevention, trails and parks, and walking and bicycling throughout Spartanburg.
  • Spartanburg Academic Movement is a partnership across local education, government and community institutions with a goal to pursue high levels of educational achievement in Spartanburg.

During the campaign, Milliken associates had the opportunity to designate their donation to the nonprofits of their choosing, allowing giving opportunities to resonate more deeply with each person.

The result was inspiring.

Our associates generously demonstrated what it means to ‘do good’ by giving more than $250,000, and the Milliken Foundation matched associate donations to all four organizations for a combined impact of over $500,000. This was the largest amount collected in our annual campaign in a decade.

While the Impact Organizations we support in Spartanburg may change over time, Milliken’s commitment to the values of culture, health and education will remain steadfast.

“We care deeply about the place, people and prosperity of Spartanburg. By supporting these nonprofit organizations, we’re expanding the direct impact that Milliken & Company has on our community and fostering a meaningful giving experience for our associates,” said Milliken & Company President and CEO Joe Salley when announcing the launch of the campaign.

We look forward to seeing the impact of our associate’s generosity at work throughout our community.
